What Karura Bikes books
Karura Bikes takes the booking. You choose the date and pay online. A partner provides the bicycle. We do not own the bikes.
A person who operates bikes at Karura can ask to register as a provider. We enroll that provider when they have bikes and we agree to work with them. The platform exists to put the booking in order before anyone arrives at the forest.
A bike held for your date
If you walk up to Karura Forest and ask at the gate, a bike may be free, or it may not. A booking on Karura Bikes is the arranged alternative. You have a date. You have a time. The bike on the booking is the one set aside for you, at the price shown when you pay.
You do not have to use this platform. You can still go to the forest and hire a bike from someone there. That hire does not pass through Karura Bikes.
A day the bike provider can plan
The same booking list helps the person who supplies the bikes. They can see the day before it starts. A day with five bookings is a day they can prepare the bicycles for. A quieter day is visible too. Karura Bikes gives them that list. It does not make Karura Bikes the operator of those bikes.
The partner provides the bike
Karura Bikes does not present itself as the people who operate the bikes at Karura Forest. Partners do that work. Our part is the booking: that you get a bike, that it is the bike you booked, and that you pay the price on the booking.
A fault in the bike
If the problem is the bicycle itself, that sits with the partner who provided it. Karura Bikes does not take the operator’s place in that dispute. The booking covers the arrangement to get you a bike at the stated price.
Karura Bikes is not the forest authority
Karura Bikes is not associated with Kenya Forest Service, Kenya Wildlife Service, or any government body. We are an independent platform. We are not a licensing body. We are not a community, and we are not an official registered community of Karura Forest.
Entrance to the forest is still paid at the gate. That charge is separate from the bike booking. The figures are on the Karura Forest entrance fee page.
How we choose a bike provider
Before we enroll a provider, we look at the bikes and the service. We keep the partners we judge to be sound, to the best of our knowledge. We are not licensed to certify a bicycle. A review by Karura Bikes is not proof that a bike is good. We partner with the providers we are willing to book, and we do not claim more than that.
