Do I need to leave my ID to hire a bike in Karura Forest?

What happens if I return the bike late?

Late return past your booked end time can trigger an extra hire block or fees as stated in your confirmation and the booking and refund policy. Return on time or contact us before the slot ends.

Who pays if a hired bike is damaged or lost?

The partner supplies the bike. Damage, loss or theft during the hire is the rider’s responsibility to that partner. A fault already in the bike when it is handed over sits with the partner, not with Karura Bikes as the booking platform.

Karura Forest bike hire rules

Karura Bikes is the booking platform. A partner supplies the bike. These rules cover ID checks, late return, damage, loss, time limits and rider conduct. Binding amounts appear on your confirmation and in the booking policy.

ID and disclaimer

Bring a valid government ID when you collect the bike. We may check or hold ID as stated at hand-over and on your confirmation. You accept that forest trails have natural risks and that you ride within your ability.

Late return policy

Your booking is a fixed timed slot (2 hours). Returning after the booked end time can trigger an extra hire block or late fees. Exact increments are stated on confirmation and in the booking and refund policy. Contact us before the slot ends if you will be late.

Damage

Report damage at return. You are responsible to the partner for damage caused during your hire beyond normal wear. A fault already in the bike when it is handed over sits with that partner. Karura Bikes does not take the operator’s place in that dispute. Specific repair or replacement charges are confirmed in writing on the booking documents. This page does not set a fee table.

Loss or theft

A bike lost or stolen during the hire period is the rider’s responsibility to the partner who supplied it. Notify us immediately so the partner can be told. Liability limits and the replacement process are on the confirmation and the booking policy.

Time limits and last hire

Book a start time that lets you finish inside forest opening hours. Last hire times follow operational capacity on the day. Arrive 15 minutes early at the gate on your confirmation.

Rider conduct

Stay on designated cycling trails
Respect walkers and other forest users
Do not transfer a hired bike to another person without our agreement
Follow staff instructions at hand-over and return

Cancellation and refund

Cancel at least 24 hours before the booked start if you want a refund. The refund is the amount we received, less 5%. Less than 24 hours before the ride, the payment is forfeited. The full rules are in the booking and refund policy. Payment rules are in the payment policy.
