Cost of Child Bike Hire in Karura Forest
The hire price for a child's bike is identical to the adult rate. A two-hour hire session costs KES 650 per person, regardless of the rider's age.
A four-hour hire option costs KES 1,200 per person, also at the same rate for children and adults. This flat-rate pricing simplifies the group booking and payment process.

As of early 2026, standard KFS entrance fees on our site record are KES 174 for an adult citizen or East African resident and KES 55 for a child in that category. Non-resident guides on the same record are KES 850 for an adult and KES 450 for a child. Parking is KES 295 per vehicle per day if you drive. Confirm every KFS figure at the gate, because those amounts can change. Karura Bikes does not collect any payments on behalf of the Kenya Forest Service.

The Karura Bikes platform does not currently offer bikes with stabilisers, trailers, or attached child seats. The hire service is limited to standard two-wheeled mountain bikes. Do not book a child count for a rider who still needs training wheels or a seat on an adult bike.

Designated Bike Routes in Karura Forest
Karura Forest provides specific, marked trails for cycling. Families with children must use the designated main northern bike track.
The track is a 12-kilometre loop marked with red arrows. Its wide, well-maintained surface is suitable for riders of different skill levels, including supervised children.
Cyclists must avoid the walking-only trails. The walking trails are marked with yellow (5 km), blue (10 km), and green (15 km) arrows.
These walking paths are narrower and not designed for bicycle use. Following only the red-arrowed cycling path is a key forest rule for safety.

Northern Bike Track Suitability for Children
The northern bike track is the right line for a family hire. First visits often work better as a shorter out-and-back inside a 2-hour block rather than a push to cover the full 12 kilometres at once.
Gate C on Kiambu Road (Sharks Gate) gives direct access onto that track. Gate A on Limuru Road reaches the track after the published river crossing from the KFEET side. Set the group pace by the youngest or least experienced rider. Turn back with time left in the hire so return and hand-over stay inside the booked slot.
